Waning Gibbous Moon Ritual

Ingredients: Salt, Juniper berries, Frankincense, Obsidian, Uncrossing candle , Juniper fronds (or hawthorn, rose stem, etc), Chariot tarot card, Knife (optional)

Ground and cleanse yourself and your space, in whatever way feels right. You can go for a walk, smudge, use a cleansing spray, sprinkle salts, meditate, drum, chant, sing, dance, whatever works best for you and the space that you’re in. If you have a shrine or altar, or work in a place in nature, then perhaps you don’t need to cleanse the space. However, you should always ground yourself and prepare the space for working in some way, to get yourself in the right frame of mind and let the spirits know that you are ready to work, as well as raise power and energy to direct into your work.

If you work with circles, then you can cast a circle, however I can also suggest that if you are worried about attracting unwanted attention, you can drum, rattle, clap, sing or dance a circle of power that gives you strength to deal with anything that comes your way. Personally, I have never experienced unwanted presences in any of my workings, rituals or ceremonies.

Throughout working with herbs and crystals, you should connect with them in some way. I like to breathe on them, sometimes hold them in my hands and clap, which works well with oils, and focus my thoughts on them of what I want them to do. Many have a variety of properties and you will get better results from them if you respect them and tell them what you are looking for.

Create salts by mixing in juniper and ground frankincense (or frankincense oil) into good quality sea salt. Stir anti-clockwise, visualising things being washed away, ties being cut, negativity rebounding off a shield. Uncrossing is serious work, focus in strongly as you do it. Leave an obsidian crystal in the salts for a real boost.

Uncrossing candles are wonderful objects. Inscribe your name, and the purpose of your uncrossing. You can anoint the black part of the candle going up toward the wick, to banish and uncross, to push away. Then anoint the white part coming down, to pull in positive energies. Use frankincense oil for this. You can then roll the anointed candle in the salt, wrapping it in the energy you have put in the salts. Juniper is a spiky plant, if you have access to fresh juniper, cut some fronds to lay around the candle, otherwise look for other spiky plants that will do the same thing; hawthorn is also great, even rose stems can be fantastic. Use the Chariot tarot card with this, to uncross and start things pulling in the same direction.

Run your bath and mix in your salts, stirring the water anti-clockwise. Light your candle with focus and intention, then slip into the water. Chant the waning gibbous chant, feel the releasing energy of the moon. Feel things loosening and uncrossing. I find using a knife to slice at the air and water around me, ‘opening’ the way can be very powerful. When you are done, let the bath drain away, pulling everything that has crossed you down the drain.

Let the candle burn until it is gone out. Never blow a candle out - that will end the spell, and it won’t use the full force of your intention. If you need to stop it because you have to go out, snuff it and relight it later with intention. Never leave a candle burning unattended! Ground yourself afterwards by eating or drinking something, and allow yourself some quiet time to feel things untangling and the way opening up.
