Ground and cleanse yourself and your space, in whatever way feels right. You can go for a walk, smudge, use a cleansing spray, sprinkle salts, meditate, drum, chant, sing, dance, whatever works best for you and the space that you’re in. If you have a shrine or altar, or work in a place in nature, then perhaps you don’t need to cleanse the space. However, you should always ground yourself and prepare the space for working in some way, to get yourself in the right frame of mind and let the spirits know that you are ready to work, as well as raise power and energy to direct into your work.
If you work with circles, then you can cast a circle, however I can also suggest that if you are worried about attracting unwanted attention, you can drum, rattle, clap, sing or dance a circle of power that gives you strength to deal with anything that comes your way. Personally, I have never experienced unwanted presences in any of my workings, rituals or ceremonies.
Throughout working with herbs and crystals, you should connect with them in some way. I like to breathe on them, sometimes hold them in my hands and clap, which works well with oils, and focus my thoughts on them of what I want them to do. Many have a variety of properties and you will get better results from them if you respect them and tell them what you are looking for.
Mix an oil of rose, violet and calendula, which is also great for beauty, again working your intention in. Add it to a base oil, like sweet almond or argan.
Make a bath tea with rose and violet petals. Remember to put your intention into them, invoking love and beauty with rose, and rebirth with violet. Don’t use boiling water if they are fresh. As they soak, send more of your intention into the brew, and you can stir it clockwise to really draw the intention in.
As the bath tea cools, cleanse a white candle and inscribe on it your name, and any symbols, sigils, runes or words such as rebirth, renewal, beauty, etc. Use willow to do this, which will strengthen the intention of rebirth. Anoint the candle with the oil, drawing the oil down to the base to draw the energy in.
Draw your bath, light some candles and turn off the lights. Set music if you feel like it, burn some incense, whatever you need to slip from the everyday world. Add your bath tea into the water, and stir it round with your intention. Scatter daisies in too, feeling their joy and freshness. Put The Fool tarot card within your view, and draw on the feeling of freedom, trust, innocence and adventure that we all start out with, that is yours to reclaim.
Put the crystals around the base of your white candle and light it with intention. You can say a few words, or meditate on the renewal and beauty that you are drawing into yourself. Step into the bath and allow the water to draw out all that needs to be left behind, and fill you with bright energy. Chant the new moon chant, connect with its energy. You can do the new moon meditation while in the bath, feeling the energy of renewal flow into you. Stay as long as you wish, luxuriate in the feeling.
When you are done, let the bath drain, taking away all the old and leaving you with the new. Anoint yourself with the oil, letting it soak into you, knowing that as you do, you shine ever brighter, beautiful and renewed.
Let the candle burn until it is gone out. Never blow a candle out - that will end the spell, and it won’t use the full force of your intention. If you need to stop it because you have to go out, snuff it and relight it later with intention. Never leave a candle burning unattended! Ground yourself afterwards by eating or drinking something, and allow yourself some quiet time to celebrate the power of the New Moon.
